Melbourne Mini Break...

I love Melbourne…
If there was a city in the world that I would love to live in, it’s Melbourne (ok, it’s really New York…I just love everything about New York and often wake up in the mornings craving a quick run to the bagel shop for a smoked salmon & cream cheese dark rye bagel…but let’s be a little realistic, Melbourne is probably as close to it as I’ll get).
Anyway…….back to Melbourne.
Arriving in Melbourne via a quick stop at IKEA, of course, we checked into our hotel and were delighted.  I have to say I was a little sceptical about buying a “mystery” deal on www.wotif.com BUT was pleasantly surprised with our hotel…The Citidines on Bourke.  The hotel itself couldn't be more central to everything you need in Melbourne, the rooms were very spacious and modern with spectacular views across  the heart of Melbourne’s skyscrapers and the restaurant downstairs was really nice too (The Heirloom Restaurant & Sake Bar).  So after we settled into our room we spent the afternoon strolling around
the city, dodging trams and looking for a nice spot for a well earned drink.  We ended up in the best little spot on the Yarra.  A
river-side bar aptly called Riverland Bar.  The bar was set right on the banks of the river and offered delicious local wines, a lovely atmosphere and a scrumptious looking menu (the seafood risotto spectacular!).
The next morning was spent on the City Circle Tram showing hubby around the Docklands area…BUT alas that was all I was allowed to do….you see, my hubby’s birthday present was a ticket to watch the cricket @ the MCG…good news – a weekend away in Melbourne, bad news – I had to attend the cricket too.  Actually we had a great day/night at the Cricket.
We walked to the MCG along the Yarra and it was turning into a lovely sunny day and spent the next 10 hours cheering on the Australians as they batted little white balls around the ground.
Typically Melbourne…we woke the next morning to pouring rain, howling wind and grey skies.  Not to be deterred a lovely morning was spent checking out the fabulous food (Yum Cha) and shopping Melbourne has to offer…and Yes, a second trip to IKEA on the way home to pick up the essential Swedish food to keep my hubby happy.
There’s a million more things I want to do in Melbourne…so, living so close to Melbourne has its rewards I guess.
